Why listen to Royal Road serials

Royal Road is a site for web serials, and many stories run to hundreds of chapters. Reading them all on a small screen is tiring, while listening fits into a commute, a walk or housework. Reader Friend turns the page you are already reading into audio, so you do not need to copy text or export anything.

How to listen to Royal Road with Reader Friend

Voices and character voices

The voice follows the language of the text, so English chapters are read by an English voice. You can pick natural on-device voices that run offline or the voices built into your phone, and set the speed to match how you listen. For dialogue-heavy stories, character voices let different speakers sound different, and pronunciation rules fix invented names once for every chapter.

Tips for long sessions

Good to know

Reader Friend is an independent app and is not affiliated with Royal Road. It reads text that is already open in your browser, so follow the site’s terms of use and the author’s wishes.

FAQ

Can I listen to Royal Road with the screen off?

Yes, on Android. Playback continues in the background with the screen off, like a music app, and a sleep timer can stop it after the minutes you choose. A browser’s built-in read-aloud usually stops when the screen locks.

Does it go to the next chapter automatically?

Yes, once the Next chapter button is set. Reader Friend taps it when a chapter ends and keeps reading while Repeat is on Default. If the button is not found automatically, hold it for about one second and choose "Add Click".

Will it read author’s notes?

Reader Friend reads the chapter text shown in your browser. Author’s notes that appear in the page text may be read too, and you can add a text filter to skip repeated notes.

Can it read locked or members-only chapters?

No. It only reads what you can already open in your browser. It does not unlock chapters that the site does not show you.

Does it work on iPhone?

Reader Friend is an Android app plus a Chrome extension for computers. There is no iPhone app at the moment. If you use an iPhone, you can listen with the Chrome extension on a computer instead.
