Why readers use it

Long serials are easier to finish when you can listen. Commuting, cooking, working out or resting your eyes at night, you can keep the story going without holding your phone. Reader Friend was built by a long-time web novel reader who wanted one thing: press play once and keep listening chapter after chapter.

What it does

Sites readers listen to

Readers use it on sites such as Webnovel, Wattpad, Royal Road, Scribble Hub, Tapas, Archive of Our Own, Syosetu, Kakuyomu, Qidian and Novelpia. Translation sites and blogs that post chapters as normal web pages work the same way. If a page shows the text in your browser, Reader Friend can usually read it.

How to start

FAQ

Do I have to set up each site?

No. Open a chapter and press play. Reader Friend detects the story text on most sites by itself. If a site is unusual you can pick the text area once and save it as a site preset.

Does it keep reading when the screen is off?

Yes. On Android, playback continues in the background with the screen off. A sleep timer stops it after the time you choose.

Does it work with Chinese, Japanese and Korean novel sites?

Yes. Korean, Chinese and Japanese sites work the same way as English ones, and you can choose a voice for each language.

Do I need to sign in?

No. Sign-in is only used for optional features such as cloud voices and settings sync. On-device voices and file reading work without an account.

Can it read my own EPUB or TXT files?

Yes. Open EPUB, TXT and PDF files from your phone or computer and listen to them with the same player. Images with text can be read with OCR.
